Now Accepting Submissions: Our Bodies, Our Voices, Our Choices

Do you have a story that deserves to be heard?

The Cottage Sexual Assault Center & Children’s Advocacy Center is seeking original written works for Our Bodies, Our Voices, Our Choices, a brand-new theatrical production celebrating the diverse, vibrant, and complex experiences of those who identify as women and/or those who identify with having a vagina.

Inspired by The Vagina Monologues by V (formerly Eve Ensler), this production will center stories that have too often been marginalized, overlooked, or silenced on mainstream stages. We are looking for work that is funny, raw, heartbreaking, triumphant, angry, tender, and fiercely authentic.

Who Can Submit?

We enthusiastically welcome submissions from:

  • Women (cisgender and transgender) of all backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Transgender women and transfeminine individuals
  • Nonbinary, genderqueer, and gender-nonconforming people
  • Intersex individuals
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, pansexual, asexual, and Two-Spirit writers
  • Anyone who identifies with having a vagina at any point in their life

What We’re Looking For

Original works between 1–5 minutes in performance length (approximately 150–750 words) including:

  • Monologues
  • Short scenes (2–3 characters)
  • Poetry and spoken word
  • Songs and musical sketches (with a simple audio/video demo)
  • Personal essays and testimonials

Themes may explore bodily autonomy, identity, intersectionality, joy, liberation, resistance, survival, love, intimacy, healing, community, and more.

Important Dates

Submission Window: August 1 – September 15, 2026

Notification Date: September 30, 2026

Performances: February 4–6, 2027
Marigold Auditorium for Arts and Culture

Selected writers may choose to perform their own work, but performing is completely optional. If preferred, another performer can bring your piece to life.

Performer auditions will take place in December 2026, with rehearsals beginning in January 2027.
