24/7 Crisis & Information Hotline: 1-877-363-1912

Support Us

Our work is made possible by a community that believes in showing up for one another. When you give your time, talent, or treasure, you’re helping ensure survivors of sexual assault and child abuse have access to free, confidential, and comprehensive support right here in our Athens-area community. Your investment directly strengthens a safer, healthier community, because taking care of our neighbors is something we do together.

You Can Make a Difference

Volunteer

You can make a difference by volunteering your time to support survivors and strengthen our community. Opportunities include serving as a trained hotline advocate, helping with outreach and community engagement, supporting special events like The Vagina Monologues and Athens’s Got Talent, or participating in organized Days of Service.

Help Answer the Call

Hotline Support

The Cottage, a Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center, provides crisis support, advocacy, and healing services for individuals and families impacted by sexual violence and child abuse. Our 24/7 hotline connects survivors and community members with confidential support and resources. The hotline is answered by staff and interns during business hours and by trained volunteer hotline advocates during nights, weekends, and holidays. We’re currently seeking compassionate volunteers to help answer hotline calls and ensure support is always available.

  • Volunteers are expected to sign up for at least 4 shifts a month and are asked to commit to this role for at least a year.

  • Weekday shifts are 5pm-9am Monday-Friday

  • Weekend shifts are 9am-5pm and 5pm-9am Saturday and Sunday

  • Holiday shifts follow a weekend schedule (including New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Day After, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day)

  • This position is remote but does require having access to a personal cell phone to take calls.

  • The volunteer must be able to answer all calls that come in during the day/night and document in The Cottage database system.

  • Volunteers must be able to uphold confidentiality in all regards.

  • Volunteers must complete an application, interview, and complete a Criminal Background Check

  • Volunteers must be available to attend a two-day weekend training prior to taking shifts

  • Hotline Trainings occur twice a year in the Fall and Spring. For updates on training dates, please complete the Hotline Advocate Application below.
